Basics of Test & Balance

For a non-TAB audience, review the test and balance process, including specifications, qualifications, submittals, air and water balancing and reports. Specifications and qualifications for the TAB scope of work identifies where to find TAB in the specifications and discusses tolerances used. National industry qualifications are compared for identifying qualified firms. TAB submittal often includes a Design Review Report which gives Contractors and Engineers an opportunity to ensure that the TAB process will include the proper equipment and measurements. Air Balancing section will cover balancing of fans, variable air valves, outlets, inlets and outside air. Water balancing section will cover pumps, balance valves, coils and balancing methods. The Reports section will cover the basic requirements of a report. The final section addresses some ways to improve outcomes of TAB by communicating key info by mechanical contractors, building owners and engineers.
