Proposed OSHA Heat Injury and Illness Prevention Standard Now Open for Comment

OSHA is proposing a new standard titled Heat Injury and Illness Prevention in Outdoor and Indoor Work Settings. The standard would apply to all employers conducting outdoor and indoor work in most sectors where OSHA has jurisdiction.

Under the terms of the new rule, employers would be required to create a plan to evaluate and control heat hazards in their workplace. It would more clearly set forth employer obligations and the measures necessary to effectively protect employees from hazardous heat.

Between now and December 30, 2024, OSHA will be accepting comments on their proposed rule. Comments and attachments, identified by Docket No. OSHA-2021-0009 can be submitted electronically at https://www.regulations.gov.
