Use TASC: Tune In • Ask • State • Connect

As we continue to observe Suicide Prevention Month, learn more about how to help a teammate or colleague who may be suffering.

Knowing the signs is one thing — knowing what to say is another. The TASC model helps guide these conversations.

  • Tune In: Notice changes in behavior, mood, or attendance.
  • Ask: “Are you thinking about suicide?” Asking does not increase risk — it shows you care.
  • State: “You matter. Your life is important.”
  • Connect: Get them help. Call 988, or connect them to peer support.

These crucial tools will help you engage in a conversation that can make a difference. Just remember, training crews to talk about suicide can save lives, just like training them to use fall protection.
