SMACNA is a proud sponsor of the International Code Council’s Building Safety Month, an international campaign to raise awareness about building safety. Topics are divided into weekly themes that focus on a specific safety area. The modules are available online and can be completed in any order and at a contractor’s or trade worker’s own pace.
Week 1: Energy and Innovation. Focus areas include energy efficiency and carbon reduction, resiliency, sustainability, innovation, and building green.
Week 2: Training the Next Generation. Focus areas include the importance of training and professional development, building careers for today’s generation, and mutual aid.
Week 3: Water Safety. Focus areas include backflow prevention, water efficiency, swimming pool and backyard water safety, winter water safety, and water conservation.
Week 4: Disaster Preparedness. Focus areas include building to the latest codes, preparing your family, safety first, and tops for dealing with fires and other disasters.
The site also includes safety toolkits and other promotional materials.
