Insulating ducts over 60 inches in diameter is no small feat, and a sheet metal manufacturer in North Carolina faced this challenge head-on for a special events venue in Charleston. Traditionally, the team had worked with ducts up to 36 inches, so stepping up to 62 inches required a reliable, lightweight solution. Johns Manville’s Spiracoustic Plus® duct liner proved to be the perfect fit.
Spiracoustic Plus® is engineered for superior acoustical and thermal performance in spiral air duct interiors. Its design includes evenly spaced kerfs for easy installation inside spiral ducts, a durable Permacote® coating for microbial protection, and a fire-resistant FSK facing. Compared to double-wall systems, Spiracoustic is significantly lighter, making it easier to handle and cost-competitive for large-scale projects.
The project involved fabricating and installing approximately 450 feet of ductwork in varying diameters, all exposed and painted to blend into the venue’s aesthetic. Johns Manville provided hands-on support, ensuring the crew felt confident with the new approach. “It really went smoothly after the guidance we received,” said the team’s sales manager. The crew quickly recognized the benefits of Spiracoustic’s lighter weight and ease of installation.
This successful project demonstrates how collaboration and the right product can simplify even the most daunting challenges in HVAC insulation.
