Stratus in the Real World: Lessons From General Sheet Metal

SMACNA’s 2026 Innovator of the Year, Jen Clark, and Trevor Brown of General Sheet Metal (GSM) will lead a session at Stratus Innovate 2026 on their first year implementing Stratus and the practical lessons gained along the way.

One of the biggest takeaways from General Sheet Metal’s first year with Stratus is that setting up technology is only the beginning. The more important work comes from building processes that teams can maintain, follow, and improve over time.

What You’ll Take Back to Your Shop:

  • How early database cleanup creates a stronger foundation for fabrication operations
  • How to map VDC and fabrication processes before implementation to reduce rework and inefficiencies
  • How to divide responsibilities and maintain accountability when dedicated implementation resources are limited
  • How to align teams with different levels of Autodesk, fabrication database, and workflow knowledge
  • How phased rollouts can build confidence and support long-term adoption
  • How to secure early buy-in and make new processes part of day-to-day operations

Meet the Speakers Behind the Session

Jen Clark | Project Integration Manager, General Sheet Metal

Jen spent four years as a Project Engineer, working in the field and managing tracking and documentation on large commercial projects before transitioning into her current role focused on process improvement, cross-functional alignment, and technology strategy.

As a key member of GSM’s Stratus implementation team, Jen has focused on:

  • Connecting VDC, fabrication, and operations teams around shared processes
  • Applying her data, integration, and workflow expertise to support adoption
  • Ensuring Stratus aligns with GSM’s broader technology strategy
  • Streamlining internal operations and advancing digital workflows across the organization

In addition to presenting this session, Jen will lead the dedicated sheet metal roundtable, where attendees can exchange ideas, discuss common challenges, and connect with peers navigating similar implementation decisions.

Trevor Brown | VDC Manager, General Sheet Metal

Trevor brings nearly 15 years of sheet metal experience spanning detailing, CAD/Revit modeling, and hands-on duct fabrication.

During GSM’s first year with Stratus, Trevor played a central role in:

  • Developing publishing workflows
  • Building reports that improved data visibility and integrity
  • Training end users across the organization
  • Strengthening the connection between VDC and fabrication processes
