The Estimator’s Toolkit Helped Participants Build Skills for Predictable Project Success

The Estimator’s Toolkit: Best Practices for Predictable Success brought industry professionals together September 1-2, 2026, for a two-day program focused on improving the decisions, systems, and processes that lead to stronger, more predictable project outcomes. Designed with today’s estimating challenges in mind, the program guided participants through practical methods for evaluating bid opportunities, identifying risk, analyzing labor, and protecting profitability from preconstruction through project turnover.

Over the course of the program, attendees explored key topics including bid decision-making, the Reference Manual for Labor Units, general conditions, labor rate analysis, and common “traps and snares” found in bid documents. Participants also examined the role of artificial intelligence in estimating workflows, with applications connected to bid decisions, conditions scoring, and hands-on exercises that demonstrated how emerging tools can support skilled professional judgment.

Day two shifted attention to change orders, project turnover, and the steps needed for a profitable job. By the conclusion of the program, participants left with practical takeaways they can apply immediately, along with a stronger understanding of how disciplined estimating practices, better risk recognition, clear communication, and thoughtful use of technology contribute to more predictable success.
