Two years ago at the convention I did "adding commercial service to your existing business". I have had a lot of requests for a follow up session on next steps needed. I would like to offer 2 programs if there is room. The first would be a repeat of "adding commercial service to your existing business" and the 2nd would be Taking your first steps in setting up commercial service within your business. This session will focus on building the business plan which will include how to enter this venture (organically or through acquisitions), I will talk about both. It will cover cost to set up and setting realistic payback time periods. I will display an org chart with a basic service department and discuss cost associated with each member on the chart. I will also display real examples of service financial statements so the group can see the difference between a construction-oriented business and service-oriented business. I will cover the key positions needed and discuss those qualifications to look for and where to look for them.
I was recently at the Partners in Progress program and when we had a general session with the key leaders from Smacna, Owners and Labor and one of the things they all agreed on and talked at length about was the fact that Service has a lot of potential for adding hours to our trade but it is a mystery to most people within Smacna and Labor and they wanted to commit time needed in order to understand it better. I will be retiring soon but would like to offer what I have learned in my 46 years of building and running service operations. This is my give back to the trade and Smacna which has been so good to me and my family. I will attach a copy of my power point I used 2 years ago in "Adding Commercial Service to Your Existing Business" however, I can work on the 2nd session Power Point "Taking your first steps in setting up commercial service within your business" if you decide to have me present or not.
