SMACNA Attends Third SMART General Convention

SMACNA President Carol Duncan and CEO Aaron Hilger addressed SMART members during the union’s third General Convention that was held in Las Vegas, NV. Both Hilger and Duncan lauded the SMACNA/SMART partnership and how it propelled the industry to heights that were previously unimaginable.

During her comments, Duncan discussed efforts to ensure that workplaces were places where everyone felt valued and put into a position to contribute, saying, “It is crucial that our job sites, shops, and offices are places where everyone feels safe.” She continued, “We all share the responsibility to speak up when something seems off and to support one another. Creating an environment where everyone feels welcome is key to attracting and keeping the best talent in the market.”

Hilger talked about similar topics while outlining some of the combined efforts on matters such as legislative affairs, working together to improve indoor air quality, and collaborating on meeting some of the staffing challenges posed by an increasing number of megaprojects. He applauded the state of the partnership, saying, “It’s a wonderful time to be a union contractor and a union member…Thank you for your partnership as we continue to work together.”
