How to Handle Grievances

Employee complaints are bound to arise in any business operation: even the best contractor won't be able to avoid the occasional grievance. The majority of sheet metal collective bargaining agreements have adopted the grievance procedures set forth in the Standard Form of Union Agreement for the Sheet Metal Industry (SFUA), which calls for a four‐step process for resolution of grievances. Contractors should ensure they are familiar with their collective bargaining agreement's grievance process, including any time limitations.

Suicidal behavior has gained recognition worldwide as a significant public health problem. In Australia, suicide is a leading cause of death with 2,273 deaths (aged over 15 years) in 2011 (1,747 male deaths and 546 female deaths), representing 1.5% of all deaths over the age of 15 (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2013b). Most deaths by suicide are among people of working age, and suicide is the leading cause of death for men aged 25–44 years and women aged 25–34 years.

SMACNA Urges House to Support, Cosponsor H.R. 3079

SMACNA urged Members to support H.R. 3079, “The Energy Savings Through Public-Private Partnerships Act” sponsored by Representative Peter Welch (D- VT) and cosponsored by Representative Kinzinger (R-IL).  H.R. 3079 has been reported from subcommittee to the Energy and Commerce Committee and awaits full Committee approval. An identical Senate bill, S. 1706, introduced by Senators Gardner (R-CO) and Coons (D-DE) has been referred to the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
